Get More Books
May 9, 2007 at 8:07 am | In Books, On the Web | 1 CommentI just started playing with this: BookMooch. The idea is simple — give away your books for free (you do have to pay the postage of mailing the book). For every book you give away, you get a point, which allows you to ask someone for a book you want. I think this is a great resource for book lovers like me who don’t want to keep every book we read in our collections but also feel squeamish about throwing them away or even tossing them in the Goodwill pile. It’s certainly better than foisting them on your friends. At least in this case, you get a book in return and the person you’re foisting the book on actually wanted it enough to ask for it.
I’ve also been enjoying this: Twitterlit. Just the first lines of books are posted. If the line interests you, click through to find out what the book is and maybe order it from Amazon. It is like a game, to see how far off your guess is from the actual book. Which is how I felt when I clicked on Alan Alda’s memoir the other day.

That twitterlit site is both intriguing and addictive. Thanks for the tip.
