Time for my Friday reading roundup. I forgot to post last week, but over the last 2 weeks, I finished Ray Bradbury‘s The Illustrated Man, and then I read Audrey Niffenegger‘s second novel, Her Fearful Symmetry (what a terrific title). It’s a ghost story set near Highgate Cemetery in London, very slow-moving and atmospheric. I liked it a lot, but I thought it dragged in the middle — not quite as good as The Time Traveler’s Wife, but good enough.
Following that, I checked out World War Z by Max Brooks from the library. I was skeptical that anyone could write a good zombie novel. Zombies are much better suited to the screen, in my opinion. But World War Z is a ripping good zombie novel, a fast page-turner that can get just as scary as any zombie movie. I’m really enjoying it.
I would recommend any of these books to fans of science fiction, fantasy and horror.
