I think a lot of people may be reading Under the Dome by Stephen King as they watch the miniseries adaptation being aired on CBS this summer. If you have Amazon Prime, you can stream new episodes for free four days after they air. I’ve been watching it, and so far, it seems to align with most Stephen King television adaptations I’ve seen–entertaining but certainly not great film, and sometimes bordering on just plain silly. With rare exceptions, King’s storytelling style does not seem to translate well to any screen. I think the images he puts in our heads will always surpass anything that can be filmed or even done with CGI. If you missed reading Under the Dome the first time around, read my review and see if it’s something you want to pick up.
New fiction by Joe Hill (NOS4A2), Neil Gaiman (The Ocean at the End of the Lane) and Kate Atkinson (Life After Life) all seem to be getting strong reviews. I’m having a hard time picking my vacation books this year. I might have to power through them all.
Are you reading anything good this summer?
